Pritchard: Micropus 1-6
The
six tiny piece entitled Micropus were all composed between 2002 and 2009
without a commission or a performance in mind. They each look at a single,
simple compositional idea and stop as soon as it is exhausted. There is no
development of an idea, hence the brevity. The player is instructed to play
without expression and to be as precise as possible with respect to the
notation. That way the compositional idea remains foremost, not blurred or
obscured by interpretive decisions.
Piece number three must be played twice, once at the beginning of the set
and once at the end; the remaining pieces may be in any order. |
